Both companies replace windows in the Phoenix area, and they differ in two places: the frame material and how long installation is covered. Renewal by Andersen windows use Andersen's Fibrex composite frame. Energy Shield builds its own vinyl windows in house, made for the Arizona heat. Renewal by Andersen lists 2 years on professional installation. Energy Shield covers installation for as long as you own the home.

Where Renewal by Andersen is stronger
- The Andersen name and a national company behind it. If you move often or want a brand you already know, that counts.
- Fibrex. A composite frame with wood fiber is a different material from vinyl. If you want a non-vinyl frame, Energy Shield's vinyl windows are not that.
Where Energy Shield is stronger
- Installation coverage. Lifetime versus 2 years.
- Hardware coverage. Lifetime versus 10 years.
- Built in house for the Arizona heat. We build our own vinyl windows and sliding glass doors in house. What we make and what we resell.
- Numbers up front. Our price ranges and the SHGC of every current window series are published.
How to compare the two quotes you get
- Ask each company for the whole-window SHGC and U-factor of the exact product, with the NFRC label. In Phoenix, SHGC is the number to watch: the energy code's maximum is 0.25 (why).
- Ask for the written warranty, and read the installation and transfer lines.
- Compare the price per window, not the total, and check what each quote includes.
